Gynecology Services Available at Our Leesburg Office

Our gynecology team in Leesburg offers comprehensive preventive services, including routine pelvic exams and Pap smears. You can also receive customized family planning, including contraception services like birth control evaluations.

Our skilled providers may address gynecological concerns of adolescents and women transitioning through perimenopause to menopause. In addition, our gynecologists specialize in diagnosing and treating unexplained chronic pelvic pain and symptoms from various conditions, including:

Fibroids

Uterine fibroids are noncancerous growth inside the uterus. They are common among women of childbearing age and usually treated with a minimally invasive laparoscopic procedure.

Endometriosis

Endometriosis is a condition in which tissue inside the uterine tissue grows in the pelvic cavity outside the uterus. This condition can be painful and reduce fertility. Treatment often involves minimally invasive laparoscopic surgery.

Female Infertility

Infertility treatment may be an option when a couple has been unable to conceive after one year of trying. Age, physical problems, hormonal issues, lifestyle, or environmental factors can all contribute to infertility. Recurring miscarriages may also necessitate infertility treatment.

Ovulatory Dysfunction

Ovulatory dysfunction occurs when ovulation is absent or irregular. A patient with this disorder may experience fewer than normal menstrual cycles per year. Treatment usually involves medication to induce ovulation.

Abnormal Uterine Bleeding

Abnormal uterine bleeding occurs when a women's menses are heavier or longer than the expected duration. A patient may also have abnormal uterine bleeding when bleeding occurs after sex, between periods, or after menopause.

Minimally Invasive Gynecology Procedures

Our gynecology team in Leesburg and Centreville uses the latest technologies for several minimally invasive procedures. Some of the in-office services we perform include:

Endometrial ablation

Endometrial ablation treats the causes of abnormal uterine bleeding by destroying the endometrium, or lining of the uterus. Ablation can be an effective treatment because the endometrium is the tissue responsible for shedding and bleeding during menstrual cycles.

Several technologies are available for in-office endometrial ablation, including NovaSure® and hydrothermal ablation. Both NovaSure® and hydrothermal ablation are nonhormonal procedures that may decrease abnormally heavy menses and sometimes stops them entirely. Both types of ablation therapy are for women who are not interested in future pregnancies. NovaSure® uses a radiofrequency for the ablation process, while hydrothermal ablation uses a heated saline solution.

Hysteroscopy

Hysteroscopy involves the insertion of a slender, lighted instrument through the vaginal canal to view inside the uterus to diagnose and treat abnormal bleeding. During a hysteroscopy, the physician may take a biopsy (tissue sample) or remove fibroids.

Laparoscopy

Laparoscopy is a minimally invasive surgical approach to remove polyps, fibroids, and endometrial tissue through small incisions made in the abdomen. With this gynecology service, an OBGYN in Leesburg first inflates the pelvic area with a harmless gas to increase the negative space and better view the pelvic structures. Then, the surgeon makes additional small incisions to insert other slender medical instruments and remove tissue as needed.

What to Expect during an Initial Gynecology Appointment

During the initial visit, we take time to review the patient's medical history, discuss symptoms or concerns, and address any reproductive or general health questions. As part of routine preventative care, our OBGYN may recommend a pelvic exam and other gynecological services, like a pap smear, to our Leesburg patients.

A provider will check for abnormalities in the vagina, uterus, ovaries, and fallopian tubes during a pelvic exam. A Pap smear is also a standard component of regular gynecological care. A pap smear is a laboratory test done on a cervical sample to check for precancerous or cancerous cells of the cervix.
